To impart knowledge in the inter disciplinary field of Mechatronics as related to
Manufacturing.
OBJECTIVE:
This syllabus is formed to create knowledge in Mechatronic systems and impart the
source of concepts and techniques, which have recently been applied in practical
situation. It gives a framework of knowledge that allows engineers and technicians to
develop an interdisciplinary understanding and integrated approach to engineering.

Introduction to Mechatronics - Systems- Need for Mechatronics - Emerging area of
Mechatronics - Classification of Mechatronics - Measurement Systems - Control
Systems.
UNIT II SENSORS AND TRANSDUCERS: 12
Introduction - Performance Terminology – Potentiometers - LVDT - Capacitance
sensors - Strain gauges - Eddy current sensor - Hall effect sensor - Temperature
sensors - Light sensors - Selection of sensors - Signal processing.
UNIT III ACTUATORS 12
Actuators – Mechanical - Electrical - Fluid Power - Piezoelectric - Magnetostrictive
- Shape memory alloy - applications - selection of actuators.
UNIT IV PROGRAMMABLE LOGIC CONTROLLERS: 8
Introduction - Basic structure - Input and output processing - Programming -
