Thermosetting Plastics – Applications – Merits and Disadvantages. Fibres – Glass,
Boron, Carbon, Organic, Ceramic and Metallic Fibers – Matrix Materials – Polymers,
Metals and Ceramics
UNIT II PROCESSING OF PLASTICS 9
Extrusion – Injection Moulding – Blow Moulding – Compression and Transfer Moulding –
Casting – Thermo Forming.
UNIT III MACHINING AND JOINING OF PLASTICS 7
General Machining properties of plastics – Machining Parameters and their effect –
Joining of Plastics – Mechanical Fasteners – Thermal bonding – Press Fitting.
UNIT IV PROCESSING OF POLYMER MATRIX COMPOSITES 13
