cylinder, hollow sphere –Analogy between flow of heat and flow of electricity – Effect of
temperature on thermal conductivity – Critical insulation thickness – Transient heat conduction
– Lumped heat parameter model.
UNIT II CONVECTION 12
Concept of heat transfer by convection – Natural and forced convection – Concept of LMTD
– Local and overall heat transfer coefficient – Application of dimensional analysis for
convection – Empirical Equations for forced convection under laminar, transient and turbulent
conditions – Empirical equations for natural convection – Influence of boundary layer on heat
transfer – Heat transfer through packed and fluidized beds – Heat transfer with phase
change: boiling, vaporization and condensation.
